ALTOONA, Wis. (WEAU) – A local school district is partnering with police to hold an evacuation drill and a SWAT team drill later this week.
The Altoona School District says students and staff will leave class and walk to designated evacuation areas. It will be the first time they’ve done this kind of drill. Once they’re out of the building, Altoona police will “conduct tactical maneuvers” in the schools.
Altoona’s Superintendent says the drills can shed light on potential problems with planning for emergencies, and help insure the safety of everyone at the schools.
The drills are scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Thursday. The district asks parents not to be alarmed if they see students leaving the schools and police rushing into the complex.
