MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Urban farmer Will Allen is donating 100 baskets of food to families and a Fortune 500 company in Milwaukee is matching it.
Allen is the founder and chief executive of Growing Power Inc. It's a Milwaukee-based company that develops urban farming techniques and teaches young people how to grow food in poor, inner-city neighborhoods.
The baskets will be donated to the Children's Service Society of Wisconsin, Maple Tree School, the Silver Spring Neighborhood Community Center, the Mary Ryan Boys and Girls Club, and the Sherman Park Community Organization. They will distribute the food.
The Fortune 500 company based in Milwaukee wishes to remain anonymous. Each of the donations is worth $2,000.
