I must admit that when I heard that Brett Favre had been granted his release from the New York Jets earlier this week that my immediate reaction was, OMG, he's going to play for the Minnesota Vikings.  As a free agent, Favre can play for any team he wants.  That's what he wanted last year when the Packers shunned his attempts to come back and play in Green Bay.  Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy had already committed to Aaron Rodgers, and spent nearly the entire off-season getting Rodgers ready to take over.  I respect the Packers brass for taking a stand, and whether Packers fans care to agree with me or not, I believe the right decision was made.  I believe Rodgers will get the Packers back to the playoffs.  Maybe not in 2009, but in the near future.

Back to Favre.  The door is wide open for him to un-retire (again) and play for the Vikings.  Yes, Minnesota won the division in 2008 with a combination of Tarvaris Jackson-Gus Frerotte.  They arguably have the best running back in the NFL in Adrian Peterson, a solid offensive line, and a formidable defense led by Jared Allen, the Williams duo, and Antoine Winfield.  They added Florida wide receiver Percy Harvin in the draft.   The ingredients are there for a Vikings run to the Super Bowl.  Brad Childress and Darrell Bevell have a good relationship with Brett, and a "healthy" Favre could be the final piece to the Vikings puzzle.  Here's my take.  If Favre's arm, shoulder (whatever ails him) has healed, #4 will be calling Winter Park, MN and exploring the possibility of playing for the Purple Pride.  The Vikings have NEVER won a Super Bowl, and why not try to get there with Brett Favre.  Do Vikings fans truly believe that either Jackson or Sage Rosenfels will get them there?  Why not take the chance with Favre?

From a sports reporter's point of view covering the Green Bay Packers and working in Eau Claire, this storyline and possibility of Brett Favre competing in the NFC North is incredibly juicy!!!!!   The Bears added Jay Cutler, the Lions have the #1 overall pick in Matthew Stafford, the Packers have Aaron Rodgers, and the Vikings potentially with #4?   It would be too good to be true!!!  The intensity of the Packers-Vikings rivalry would be off the charts.  You want to talk about MUST SEE TV!!!!   If Brett has ANYTHING left in the tank, I believe that he'll take one final stab at getting to the Super Bowl.  The Vikings are his final chance.  I'm not a mind reader, but I also think that Favre would love to play against the Packers.  What a way to finish his career!   The one-time hero returns to Green Bay as the villain!!!!   This is a storyline that movie producers would drool for.  There's a good chance it will be played out in real life!

My question is to both Packers and Vikings fans!   How do you feel about Brett Favre in a Minnesota Vikings uniform?  Would this ruin Favre's legacy in Green Bay?  Do Viking fans want a soon-to-be 40-year old QB?  Please tell us know how you feel!!!!

I have tons of Packer memorabilia for sale -- cheap. I will hang on to the my Favre stuff and intend to add the purple Farve things to my collection. I am so mad at McCarthy! I wrote him a letter but strangely he doesn't want to be my pen pal. I have not heard a word back from him. Living in IL I have had to take a lot of guff over the years because I am/was a Packer fan. Favre gave the Packers back their pride. Yes I will cheer Favre in purple -- all the way to the Vikings Super Bowl WIN! Packers regret! Go Brett!

I grew up in Wisconsin cheering for the Packers win or loose. I feel bad for all of the bitter Packer fans. Use some common sense and reasoning. You were told a ton of lies by TT local media... that many other fans throughout the coutry read right through. Tampering charges were proven false...yet Packer management never apologized for such crazy charges. Believe what you want. I am a football freak. Players are often forced off of their teams before they retire. Brett wasn't the first and he won't be the last. So why the Vikings rather than the Jets. He knows the offensive system and the coaches. The best running back in the league with AP- talented players on the offense and defense. He loves to play. Let him play. I for one will be watching and cheering the Vikings on. I can't wait for the season to begin. Go Vikings!!!!!! And no this will not ruin his legacy.

Thompson and McCarthy are idiots. I have only ever been a Packer fan my whole life (53 yrs). They killed that. They had their chance to do right by Brett and they blew it. After how Favre was treated by them with all he did for that team I say he owes them NO loyalty and can go anywhere he wants now, and I hope it is to Minnesota. He has always carried himself with class and dignity. When he has the opportunity to don some purple, I hope he spanks their green and gold behinds while doing so. I will be cheering the loudest.

I'm with my mom (Nancy, Walnut IL), she knows her Packer/Favre stuff. Our dad instilled the passion for the Packers in to her, myself and my 3 sisters early on. I think he'd be disgraced today to see what they did to Brett.

I have been a Packer fan for 50 years. I hate what the Packer coaches and mgr did to Favre. Of coarse I will be a Viking fan if Favre goes there. I will never again love the Packers as long as they have the same front desk. Send me a purple Favre and I will cheer between tears. He is coming back for the GB fans who were dislocated by mge. Favre should still be a Packer but I will be happy with the next best thing. Go Vikes! Go Brett!

I have been trying to stand behind Brett but would be highly dissapointed if he decides to go to the Vikings. He needs to remember his loyalties and the team that gave him the chance back in 1992. I understand wanting to play but if he goes to the purple barneys, he is not just getting back at the front office in Green Bay, he is slapping every Green Bay fan in the face that stood behind him. I say Brett, don't do it.

Once it is official, my boy and I are going to get our purple Favre jerseys! I've never liked the Packers, but always respected Brett. After being stabbed in the back, what a better way for Favre to end his career than giving the Vikes their first Super Bowl!? One thing is for sure....the Packers vs. Vikings game will be WILD!! I just hope not too many fans get hurt in the stands.

If Favre does go to the Vikings it would ruin whatever love of Favre anybody in Green Bay still has. As a person, it would be the worst move he could make. He would be selling out to everybody who praised his name, and worshiped the ground he walked. It is a complete slap in the face to every Packer fan. As far as a career move, it is a team that could go to the Super Bowl. All they need is a good QB, and Favre is that man. He won't have to throw every down with AP back there, and the season will be played in a dome, which will help in those December games. I won't say that with Favre the Vikings will be Super Bowl bound because they always seem to screw it up somehow, but, having a QB like Brett would leave them with NO excuses.

I think Brett is one of the best to play the game. Green Bay gave him no respect. He deserved at least that. I don't like seeing him become a Viking, but he feels shafted by Thompson and McCarthy. I love the Pack, but If Brett plays for the Vikings I hope he kicks Their Backside good

I have considered Favre a Nemesis since he came into the league. Growing up a Vikings fan in MN (with my Vikings Jersey on and diaper hanging out)the vikes have pissed many great seasons down their leg. Considering the magic he brought to the pack over the years, I think I will welcome the possibility of that magic with open arms.

My husband and I are Vikings fans, my husband since he was 3 yrs old and he is now 46. We travel to the Metrodome to watch 2-3 games per season (this is a 6 hour drive one way) and we have the Sunday ticket so we never miss a game. If Favre goes to Mn. we will be setting this season out. Just can not and will not root for someone that we have despised for all these years. The Vikings need a long term plan with young QB's who will be there for the long haul, not some 40 year old has been. How any true Vikings fan can even picture Farve in purple without becoming violently ill is beyond me. There is no loyality in Football anymore. No with the players and I guess not with the fans as it seems most are accepting to Farve playing for the Vikings.
