L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library, Eau Claire, WI
Wisconsin ArtsWest 39, a major juried exhibit for regional artists, opens Sunday, February 25, at the L.E. Phillips Memorial Public Library in Eau Claire. A reception will be held on Thursday evening, March 1, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the gallery on the library’s mezzanine. Awards will be presented at 7:30 p.m.

The exhibit may be seen in the gallery and throughout the library February 25 through April 6 during the library’s regular hours: 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Friday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday; and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.

To get his solitude back, Shrek starts out on a journey that just might lead to his own happily ever after. This comical tale will have you laughing and maybe even farting out of your seats.

Watercolor Artists to hold Annual Show and Sale at Beaver Creek Reserve

The Chippewa Valley Watercolor Artists will open its annual exhibit and sale beginning March 7 at the Wise Center at Beaver Creek Reserve located north of Fall Creek on Cty. Hwy. K.

An artist reception will be held from 9 am to 4 pm on March 10th in conjunction with Beaver Creek’s French Toast Breakfast. During the reception there will be free painting activities for children and drawings for artworks donated by the CVWA artists.

The show features work from 25 artists on subjects that range from flowers and landscapes to portraits and abstractions. A portion of all sales goes to Beaver Creek Reserve.

The show will remain until April 4th and can be viewed during open hours. The Reserve is open Mon. through Sat. 9 am to 4 pm and Sun. 12 pm to 4 pm. For more information call Beaver Creek Reserve at 715-877-2212

Jazz up your spring

In this course, you will listen to, study, and discuss music examples contributing to the rise of the Swing era and the Swing era itself. You will get an overview of jazz traditions emphasizing the listening skills, cultural context, and history needed to enrich your enjoyment of this important genre long after class meetings conclude. Class time will combine lecture, relevant readings, documentary screening, and listening exercises.

Once you have soaked in all the swing goodness, you will have the chance to attend a Jazz Fest Performance with your fellow music lovers. And when you hit 52nd Street, you will be enjoying the music in a whole new way
