Wisconsin continues to struggle to reduce suicide deaths statewide. It is clear that suicide is a public health problem that requires a multi-systems approach, utilizing public education, physician training, and community health initiatives. As mental health clinicians, our job is to be able to perform skillful suicide risk assessments of people who are at risk. This training is designed to do just that by teaching suicide risk assessment skills to professionals, using evidence from epidemiologic studies, reviewing taped interviews with suicidal clients, and material derived from clinical charting of suicidal patients. We will also spend time examining suicide risk in different treatment populations.
