2018 Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office Citizen Police Academy
The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office is proud to open the application process for the 2018 Citizen Police Academy. The Eau Claire County Sheriff's Office-Citizens Police Academy program is designed to familiarize participants with various aspects of local law enforcement, such as administrative procedures, various police procedures, as well as guiding principles of law and conduct, which govern the delivery of police services. The goal of the Citizen Police Academy is not only to help local residents better understand police work in their community, but also to develop stronger ties between our community and the Sheriff’s Office. Community Based Policing is an important and vital aspect of crime control in a community. It is through community cooperation and planning that we can best ensure quality police services, in an organized effective crime prevention effort. The Citizen Police Academy is one mechanism for the Sheriff’s Office to improve communication and obtain citizen input, assistance and support, throughout the county. The 2018 Citizen Academy will consist of ten, weekly classes, which will begin Monday January 8th, 2018 and will end Monday March 12th, 2018. The classes will start promptly at 6:30 p.m. and end at 9:00 p.m. each week. The one exception will be a special scenario based class on Saturday March 10th. On that date the hours will run from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The academy classes will all be located at the Eau Claire County Government Center, 721 Oxford Ave Eau Claire Wisconsin. The exact room assignments will vary depending on the subject matter offered each week. The application process will run from October 9th, 2017 to December 29th, 2017. In order to be eligible to attend the academy, you must work in Eau Claire County or be a resident of Eau Claire County or any municipality within Eau Claire County, complete the application process, have no criminal record and be able to attend at least 9 of the eleven class sessions. Selected applicants must pass a background check and agree to sign a liability waiver in order to participate. This class session will be limited to 12 attendees, so apply early.
