(WEAU) - A new program is helping area businesses put their right foot forward.
The city recently purchased this program called 'Community Analyst' which the Eau Claire Economic Development Director says can analyze community trends and reveal household incomes to help businesses find the right location.
"When we do our analysis we can do it quickly. It doesn't take hours to sort through data. It already sorts through it by the inputs we put into it," said Mike Schatz, Economic Development Director.
Schatz says council members saw the program demonstrated at a recent conference. The city then did a six week trial run for new business Cherry Berry that was trying to find the right location.
"We ran the market data for them and said wow this was the information that they needed. They made a selection and a site and opened here in Eau Claire," said Schatz.
The owners of a new business "Fired Up Pizza", says they may try out the program too.
"You know it’s something I wish we had when we got started, there's so many things you have to know to know where to locate a business," said Mark Steil, part owner of Fired Up Pizza.
Steil says it’s important to know the area when running a business.
“The pizzas that we’re going to serve here would be a $13 pizza in Minneapolis and it won't be that much here. We know we have a local market to serve," said Steil.
The program costs the city 3600 dollars annually and Schatz feels it will benefit Eau Claire's future.
Mike Schatz says businesses can call up the city if they want their location analyzed. Although the service provided to Cherry Berry was free, the city is still deciding whether to charge businesses for the service.
