LA CROSSE, Wis (WEAU)- This week is national bike to work week. Workers all around are encouraged to leave the car behind and pedal their way to their jobs.

Last year in La Crosse bikers logged more than 5 thousand miles with the Driftless Region Bicycle Coalition. This year the DRBC hopes to top that by getting more than 7 thousand miles logged.

President of the coalition says he’s been saving a lot on gas and insurance ever since he’s decided to bike to work.

"I bike every single day and I put gas in my truck only once a month so I'm only spending about 30 dollars a month on gas," said Coalition President, Aaron Ottesen.

Not only does biking to work save money it also is environmentally friendly. For every mile biked 1lb of carbon emissions is saved.

Mr. Ottesen must have a real small truck with an itty bitty gas tank. $30.00 a fill is pretty cheap even our car costs more than that to fill. I guess I should get the ol' bike dusted off.
