Chippewa Valley Challenge begins, are you weighing in?

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Are you ready to eat lean, eat clean and exercise in 2013? Hundreds of people are planning to "JAM" into a healthier person this year through The Chippewa Valley Challenge.

From now through Wednesday, January 9th, those taking on the "Challenge" can go to any participating gym in the Chippewa Valley, fill out a form, pay a small fee of $5 and weigh-in.

"People are signing up and really trying to change their lifestyles, lose some weight obviously, but get healthy in the process," said founder Dan Ekblad.

Losing weight and a changing her lifestyle is exactly what Nicole Wallenhorst says she intends to do.

"I really want to lose weight. I've been wanting to do this for I don't know, the last two or three years," said Wallenhorst. "By July I want to try and get down to 150."

Wallenhorst along with an estimated 400 other people in the Chippewa Valley are joining that challenge.

"Contestants have to lose 10 percent of their body weight from now until April 30th. If they do that, that's when the challenge really starts. That's when they have to continue their weight loss or continue to lose weight by July 15th and that'll be the grand finale," said Ekblad.

And if you need some motivation, look no further than what the Chippewa Valley Challenge has to offer.

"If you maintained that weight loss, you'll get a free ticket to Country Jam and then for the Challenge champion, the prize package is over $2000 for the champion in the Challenge this year," said Ekblad. "But the whole reward is changing your lifestyle."

Participants must register and weigh in at one of the locations listed below:
Anytime Fitness
Bodyworks Athletic Club
Curves
Gold's Gym
Highland Fitness
YMCA, Eau Claire
YMCA Chippewa Valley Family
