Event brings awareness to hunger and homeless in the Chippewa Valley

(WEAU) - This week is National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week and Monday, people got a chance to see the services available for the homeless in the Chippewa Valley.

An event was held in Eau Claire that featured a tour of homeless shelters, lunch at the Community Table, speakers, and a free concert.

Organizers say events like this help show how big of a role volunteers play in trying to help people dealing with hunger and homelessness.

Kristina Malec, a member of the Homeless Awareness Event Committee, said “Having this event tonight is our way of showing the community just how much work goes into that, but also that we still need help, we still needs volunteers because a lot of these agencies wouldn't run without volunteers and that's kind of what bringing everyone together today is trying to do.”
