NEWS RELEASE FROM EAU CLAIRE PARKS AND REC:
EAU CLAIRE – A record 1,462 pounds of food was donated by Chippewa Valley residents participating in the Eau Claire Parks and Recreation Department’s “Feed Our Community” Dollar Swim Day July 5 at Fairfax Pool.
Pool admission was $1 that day to anyone donating a non-perishable food item.
“We’ve always had good community support for this event,” said Aquatics Supervisor Chad Duerkop. “But I think we got a little boost from Mother Nature.”
After two record-high days of 98 degrees July 2 and 4, July 5 still came in at an unseasonably warm 94 degrees. By the end of the day July 5, the season’s attendance at Fairfax Pool was more than 8,000 people greater than it had been at the same time a year ago.
The collected food was donated to the Feed My People food pantry.
The public is invited to attend Fairfax Pool’s fifth annual Water Safety Fest from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, July 14, where the lifeguard staff will teach children and adults basic water safety and rescue techniques. Admission to the event is $3.75 or free with a season pass.
