Firefighters filling their boots for muscular dystrophy

Eau Claire, Wis. (WEAU) - It’s that time of the year where area firefighters show that boots aren't just made for walking.

This year's Fill the Boot donation drive is underway in Eau Claire. Eau Claire firefighters are collecting donations at grocery stores around the city. All the money goes to help fight muscular dystrophy.

Firefighters say donating is a great way to help local families fight the debilitating disease. Firefighter Dave Pekol told us Thursday "I'm glad that the majority of this money with local families here, and I'm glad that I don't have to deal with it personally but I'd like to do my part."

You still have time to help out, the firefighters will be accepting donations Friday from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Do these organizations really want to cure these diseases. Because if there is a cure, what are they going to do for jobs? American cancer association, american lung association, Susan B. Komen, etc.....

Are you serious!!!!! First of all drunk drivers and stupid people will keep firefighters and paramedics plenty busy, Second any decent person would want to see these diseases cured so they can stop bringing heart ache to family's across the world.

The comment wasn't aimed at the firefighters, but rather the "non" profit groups that are trying to cure the deseases. Nevertheless, it's a comment that is in the heartland of stupidity rather than just boardering on it.

This comment is proof that society is going down the toilet. Thank you for your hard work firefighters.

Think about that the next time you see a 4 year old struggle to get up because Muscular Dystrophy has taken their strength away. Or the next time you see a little girl in an wheelchair who barely has enough strength to push the button. Look them in the eyes and tell them what you just told us. I'll donate an extra dollar for ignorant people.

Anyone who has a loved one that is suffering from any of the diseases these organizations support would answer a resounding yes! Once a cure is found, then they can work on prevention of the disease. Or finding a cure for a disease that doesn't have a group supporting it.
