VisionWalk fundraiser helping people see

(WEAU) - "People don't notice that my daughter is blind," said Sharon Pfeifer, Nicole’s mom.

Since Nicole Everson was young she suffered from Usher Syndrome, a combination of vision and retinal degenerative loss.

Nicole can see things better from far away, but still suffers from tunnel vision.

"I have a lot of struggles daily, just when I'm outside I've had people call me names, I've had my cane kicked" said Nicole Everson.

In 2009 she received cochlear implants, so she could hear once again.

"We need to go out and educate the community, even though I look the way I look, I am disabled, I have two disabilities," said Nicole.

Nicole's says she wants to help others, which is why she started the VisionWalk fundraiser four years ago.

At Cabin Fever Fun Fest the vendors who made it out are all supporting VisionWalk.

"Nicole is near and dear to me so to see so many people come out and support her and be here for this event and have this fundraiser," said Nicole’s friend, Julia Lofgren.

The fundraiser at the Eagle's Club hosted a poker tournament, spaghetti dinner and craft fair where about 35 vendors bought their spots for 50 dollars, which was donated to the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

"Its overwhelming, the help the donations, the people that have just come to help," said Sharon.

Sharon says she hopes the money raised will help find a cure one day.

"My goal is to have her see so she can drive me around in my old age,” said Sharon.

Nicole hopes to raise 10,000 dollars for the Wisconsin VisionWalk in May.
