Gas prices expected to soar over summer

(WEAU) Experts say gas in Wisconsin could go over four dollars a gallon this summer.

But what does that mean for some of your favorite summer activities?

"I love the garage sales, I like the bargains," said Rita Johnson from Minnesota.

All is quiet in Eau Claire as gas stations have sat at $3.89 for unleaded gas for over a week now.

But the U.S Energy Information Administration is forecasting a peak of about four dollars a gallon in May and an average of $3.95 for the summer, which is 6.3 percent higher than last summer.

Although gas prices will increase this summer, garage sale shoppers say they will still try to find the best deal that they can.

"Everybody has something their trying to get rid of, and your always looking for something, so yea it wouldn't stop me from garage sailing,” said Rita Johnson, who is helped her daughter’s garage sale in Altoona.

Traveling to garage sales can eat up your gas tank and could eventually cost more than buying your average bargain.

"Probably still drive around the same, you know you're always going to be in and out of town you never know, just follow the signs if your out to look for anything in particular," said David Richards, who lives in Augusta.

Gas has the potential to rise to $4.50, and crude oil to $114 a barrel up from last summer's $104 dollars a barrel.

Kelly Spataro says it will affect her commute to work.

"I think it’s going to be difficult that way I drive over 70 miles a day, I think that's going to be a big increase for me," said Kelly Spataro who lives in Hammond.

But she believes if her sister had another garage sale this summer, customers still would come out for the sales.

"It seems like a lot of people coming through live around the area they're walking, they're biking," said Kelly.

"Garage sales are usually kind of altogether so you can walk, the gas prices wouldn't effect that at all," said Rita.
