STRUM, Wis. (WEAU) – A local community is a big step closer to building a new playground.

The Village of Strum is competing in an online video contest to win a $15,000 playground equipment grant.

Currently it's in 2nd place and only need to be in the top five to win the grant.

They should find out the results on Saturday and hope to have the equipment in place by summer.

STRUM, Wis. (WEAU) – A local community is trying to build a new playground for its village and it needs your help.

The village of Strum was chosen as one of ten communities nationwide to be eligible for a $15,000 playground equipment grant.

It's also the smallest community competing with cities like Atlanta and Dallas.

To win, the village needs votes online.

We're told parts of the woodland park playground are 60-years-old.

Some concerns include splinters, rust, old metal slides and not meeting safety standards.

Organizers say the new playground would also help keep kids active.

"In Strum we really want to try to combat this and build a nice playground that our kids can play in and also welcome other communities to come and join us and emphasize how important it is for kids to be outside and play rather than being on video games and watching TV,” said organizer Amanda Taylor.

The village is trying to raise $40,000 for a moderate size playground for kids of all ages. It’s already held fundraisers in the last year and a half, raising $9000 and will continue to fundraise until they reach the goal.
