(WEAU) - A local girl made sure children in the area get the same gift she did when she was in the hospital.
Friday, Katie Rhoten, 14, with her organization 'Katharines Wish' delivered toys and stuffed animals to seven area health care facilities. Rhoten was rushed to the hospital 5 years ago while on vacation, and was given a toy by hospital staff before getting a shot.
Since then, Katie and her brother have organized toy drives to help others in the same situation.
“It just gave me my positivity back, my hope back,” Rhoten told us.
‘Katharine's Wish’ collected almost 1,900 items this year, more than tripling last year's total.
