Law Enforcement graduates step into real world

(WEAU) - "I think law enforcement is perhaps the most significant job that anyone could possibly have," said Wisconsin Attorney General J.B Van Hollen.

About 150 friends and family looked on as their graduates walked to receive their certificate after undergoing a 2 year program.

"It’s been a long two and a half years and my family has suffered tremendously, its going to be exciting to get back to them," said Graduate Anthony Helstern.

With graduation day now over, graduates are thinking of the next step, which is getting a job.

"At this point the job market is very difficult it definitely will be a challenge as I apply to different locations and look for full-time openings," said Graduate, Peter Pillman.

"Its tough, its a tough market, there's a lot of agencies out there that are looking for work, but there are a lot of qualified candidates so we just have to keep our nose to grindstone and keep working on it," said Helstern.

One of the top graduates Peter Pillman says he's been a part-time Reserve Deputy for the Dunn County Sheriff’s Department since March. He says his grades may help him find a full-time one.

"It’s just now our opportunity to go out there and find those openings," said Pillman.

Class Speaker Anthony Helstern says he's already applied to Eau Claire County, Chippewa County and Altoona.

"I'm just waiting for contact back and waiting for some answers," said Helstern.

While the job market is tough here in Wisconsin, the Attorney General feels the graduates won't have too hard of a time finding a job.

"Well from my experience it won't be real hard, I think Law Enforcement is always looking for good quality capable people," said Van Hollen.
