Local teen in national music competition

BLOOMER, Wis. (WEAU) -- A girl from Bloomer is a May finalist in a national music competition, the "Take First" competition.

Claire Zwieflhofer, 13, goes to Bloomer Middle School. Her amazing talent on the clarinet has her up for the award, but she needs your help to win.

Online voting in the Rico "Take First" competition runs through June 15th. The May winner will be announced on the 16th, with a grand prize winner selected on June 30th. Zwieflhofer is among five May finalists for the award.

Winners will get money for their musical education and for their school's music program. The grand prize winner walks away with $2,500 for themselves and $2,500 for their school.

Clarinet and saxophone students ages 13-19 were invited to take a video of themselves playing any solo piece from their annual state competition list and submit it via Twitter or Instagram.
