Local man to run 11 marathons for sick children

EAU CLAIRE (WEAU) As runners get in their final miles of training for the 2011 Eau Claire Marathon on Sunday, one local runner who has his eyes on a different prize.

Ryan Burr, a father of three from Lake Hallie told WEAU 13 News on Saturday that he came to a crucial point in his running after finishing his tenth marathon in 2010.

“My wife asked me what my next challenge would be and I told her let’s do 11 in 2011,” Burr said.

Since he’s admired the work of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for several years, Burr decided to make it his goal to raise $11,000 for the hospital by running 11 marathons in 2011.

“I chose St. Jude Research Hospital because of their services they provide to cancer stricken children and children with other catastrophic diseases,” Burr said.

After completing marathons in Washington, D.C. and Salt Lake City earlier this year, the 33-year-old said he’s setting his sights on Sunday’s 2011 Eau Claire Marathon.

“It’s good to get my feet back on the ground in Eau Claire and do the third,” Burr said.

Ryan said he’s already raised more than $1,600 for St. Jude, and is optimistic he can reach his goal of $11,000 by his 11th and final marathon in December.

“This is a great way for people to get involved in running and marathons and they don’t have to do any of the work. I’ll handle all the miles,” Burr said.

After completing Sunday’s race, Burr said he’ll take on the Green Bay Marathon on May 13th.
