(WEAU) - Friday, some girls got the chance to get dressed up for prom for free.
An event called "Once Upon a Prom" was held in Altoona for girls who needed financial help getting a dress, and who have completed 6 hours of community service. The event was organized by some local women and the Boys and Girls Club.
The club and other local agencies have been accepting donations of gowns, shoes, jewelry and accessories for the event for the past couple of months.
Organizer and co-founder Jennifer Rooney said "they get to pick out a dress, they pick out shoes, they pick out a purse, we have William's Diamonds Center here who has donated fabulous jewelry, so they get to go home with jewelry. Then they go see Fantastic Sams and they do their hair and up-do, and their make-up and show them how to do that for prom and then they get to go to alterations if their dress doesn't fit just right and make it perfect."
If your daughter or someone you know still needs a prom dress, there is a similar event being held Saturday in Hudson. An open house will be held at North Hudson Village Hall from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dresses, shoes and accessories will be available.
There will also be apparel for men.
