LA CROSSE (WEAU) - Construction season is about to start full force. With major projects planned this summer for both urban and rural roads expect delays in the near future.
Some drivers are prepared for the construction.

“I’m ready for the construction season. We take our time and get where we need to go,” said driver, Rene Jacobs-Guenter.
“I know on the interstate a lot of times there will be construction work and we just make time for it and know that’s one of the things that happens,” said driver Lorraine Harnwell.
Others think it’s a nightmare.
“It’s irritating, I can’t explain how irritating it gets sometime,” said driver Aspen Kalina.
Drivers should expect delays as there are already major projects on 1-94 in Eau Claire and Hwy 35 in La Crosse County that have started this month.
“The Hwy 35 construction will be starting late March and going into November,” said DOT Project Manager, Joe Gregas.
State road construction has been in the planning stages for months, they work no matter what the weather’s like.
“Construction season is just based on the scope of the work,” said Gregas.
The nice weather hasn’t affected state road construction, but it has affected the city road construction. The city will be able to start on projects early this year due to the beautiful weather.
“I think the warm weather has allowed us to start on projects that we haven’t been able to get to for years,” said La Crosse Street Superintendent Randy Hinze.
But some of La Crosse’s “big” road construction projects will have to wait because there’s no hot mix supply until the beginning of May.
“Road construction will have to start in the middle of April which is normal,” said Hinze.
Eau Claire should expect delays as work on highway I-94 begins.
County bridges E and c between Menomonie and Eau Claire are being replaced, and traffic will be reduced to one lane until June 15th.
Traffic is also reduced to one lane on I-94 between Mallard Rd. and county NN until may 25th.
