(WEAU) - Just add singing and dancing together and you have the recipe for show choir.
"Show choir is an opportunity for student to combine theatre and choir. It's an opportunity for them to perform a show, its normally 5 songs long" said Vocal Director Evan Lloyd.
Memorial's Old Abe show choir has worked hard the past few months.
"This past weekend we participated in a competition in Altoona, we did very well, we took home the grand champion trophy,” said Lloyd.
Since they are hosting, the choir will only perform and not compete. Yet some of their songs include ‘Dream On’ by Aerosmith and a mash up of ‘Sweet Dreams’ by Eurthymics and ‘Beautiful Nightmare by Beyonce.
While singing proves to be an important element to the art of show choir, so does the choreography.
“They have three months to take what I gave them and clean it, so when I come back in November I can look at it and say this is working, this isn't working,” said Choreographer Jeni Donahue.
National Champions Totino Grace will be competing, along with Altoona High School, Hastings Minnesota and many others.
All day Saturday over a thousand people will be coming to watch show choirs perform on this stage, show choirs from Wisconsin and Minnesota to battle it out to see who will be the champion
Meanwhile two-hundred to three-hundred volunteers will be helping out with Saturday’s event.
"This is our biggest fundraiser for the year, not just for show choirs but for all the choirs," said Winterfest Committee Chair, Tammy Schmitz.
"The reality is what you'll see here at Winterfest. Its hardworking students and families that put on something that's pretty incredible,” said Lloyd.
