(WEAU) - Emmi Roth USA will add 60 new jobs and a multi-million dollar plant in Platteville.
Meanwhile, BelGioioso Cheese Inc. is creating another plant in Pulaski and in Clark County, there's a cheese plant expansion too. Holland's Family Cheese in Thorp is hoping to bring in 10 new jobs by moving its plant to a new location. Since 2006 Holland's Family Cheese has spread their cheese-making passion nationwide.
"People are really looking for more of an aged cheese so we have to hold the cheese, so it will be wonderful at the new place because we are totally maxed out here," said Marieke Penterman
The current facility produces 24 different cheeses 4 days a week and they want to make cheese 5 or 6 days a week at its new plant off Highway 29.
It all starts when the cows give birth to a calf and then start producing milk and then it becomes 4,000 wheels of cheese, which Marieke says she hopes to not only expand on cheese but also start producing ice cream."
Marieke says she wants the plant to be 3-4 times bigger, and it could cost about 4 million dollars.
"This current location my husband's brother will continue farming here and then my husband and I will start at the new location," said Marieke.
The Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association says there are currently 174,000 jobs in the dairy industry, and adding more jobs helps.
"What it really helps is rural Wisconsin; this is new jobs that are helping to pump the dairy farms to give them more markets for their milk," said John Umhoefer of Wisconsin Cheese Makers Association in a phone interview.
Holland’s Family Cheese currently has 12 people working part-time and full-time, and will add 10 jobs.
"I see a lot of people, where their children have to go to the bigger cities to find a job and I'm happy to contribute to this community by making more jobs available in this area" said Marieke.
The new plant is still waiting on several permits, but if everything goes through, the project could take 3-4 years to build.
