Woman losing dog rescue farm

(WEAU) - "I kind of lost the battle, “said homeowner, Jan MacCartney.

In 2007, 66 year old Jan MacCartney bought a 2 bedroom house in the forest for 350 thousand dollars and it has been home to her furry family since.

"They're very good dogs, they learn sign language, they don't always listen, and if their not looking at me they don't hear you,” said MacCartney.

However due to a series of penalties and lawyer fees, in order for her to stay on the land and in the home, says she'd have to pay 499 thousand dollars, which she cannot. But she says that’s not her biggest problem.

"We can’t get trucks in and out because my road is so extremely icy it keeps snowing and it’s through the woods and it doesn't melt until April or May” said MacCartney.

Meanwhile Jan has asked Steve Ashmore from Soft Landing Transitional Services for help. It provides substance abuse and mental health services.

“We offered to help in someway possibly.. buy another farm or find investors to purchase another farm so she could move her dogs and horses and start working with us and helping veterans,” said Steven Ashmore, Executive Director of Soft Landing.

He too agrees that the hill is much to steep to move her out by March 9th. Jan has requested an extension on the move and has tried to work with Fannie Mae, as well as try to find a part-time job.

“66, and I’m finding a lot of people here that assume you can't do anything,” said MacCartney.

Anyone who wishes to help Jan can email her at janmac2@gmail.com or call 715-203-0076.
