Andy and Bobbie Jo are an ordinary family that resides in the small community of Alma Center. Andy is a bus driver for the School District of Alma Center-Humbird-Merrillan, and Bobbie Jo is a stay at home mom of five children. Over the past few years, this amazing couple has opened their house up once a week during the high school lunch for a student-led bible study. Since they live right across the street from the high school, over 40 students regularly fill their basement to participate in this bible study. The Frey's provide the students with a meal as they lead their own bible discussion. The students call this “Break”. It is not something that is forced on them and they have the choice to attend. I was talking to Andy about Break Away a while back, and he said, “We often don't have enough places for all of them to sit, but they just fill in the open floor space; This family obviously doesn't make a whole lot in regards to income; however, they still manage to contribute an enormous amount back to our community. The Frey's are very well-liked people in our community, and the students enjoy seeing them at sporting events and other activities. This couple never asks for anything in return, but they are always willing to give. It is for this reason that I nominate Andy and Bobbie Jo Frey for the Sunshine Award.
