This nomination is over a year over due and we were reminded of it after seeing Officer Hakes on the news last week. We have a son who is on the Autism spectrum and after seeing the destruction of some storms in the south it became apparent to us that we needed to teach him about who he could trust in case something like that ever happened here. Being a family friend, I’ve known Travis Hakes all his life. His mom suggested I call and set up a time to take our son Tony to the police department, which I did. Travis took time out of his day to show us around the Hallie Police Department. We got a tour of the police cars, fire trucks, and ambulances, which was a bonus because Travis introduced us to the fireman on duty that day. Yes, we even got to run the sirens. We feel a lot better knowing that in the case of an emergency Tony will have this positive experience of meeting police officers and firemen.
