Position Overview:
The Operator is responsible for operating assigned equipment necessary to the install fiber-optic cable, copper cable, coaxial cable, single and three phase power cable and possibly sewer or water facilities. This position will assist with all aspects of the job requiring operation of smaller scale equipment along with possible or occasional basic labor duties. The person in this position must be familiar with most procedures and associated tools and equipment necessary to install underground utilities in the most effective, safe and profitable manor.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
Field experience with digging operations in rural and urban areas around utilities.
Responsible for daily maintenance on construction equipment used.
Abide ALL company and manufacturer provided safety operational procedures and industry safety standards.
Operate equipment such as mini excavator, cable plow, or skid steer or CDL with ability to drive semi.
Provide training and assistance to co-workers learning to be operators.
Perform routine labor (pot-holing, set-up of equipment, conduit /duct /cable placement, set pedestals) as required.
Drive tow vehicle hauling equipment to and around job site.
Prepare accurate time reports, invoices and purchase orders and other required paperwork.
Identify ways of continuous improvement of processes and procedures that will elevate the company, as a whole.
Other duties as assigned.

Performance Indicators:
Measurable tasks that are key to indicating the performance level in this role:
Most efficient use of equipment.
Prevent damage to new or existing cables.
Minimal clean-up required.
Maintain proper depths.
Safety Performance.

Physical and Environmental Factors:
Ability to work outdoors and to work in all types of outdoor weather and ground conditions.
Ability to walk, sit, stand, bend, twist, stoop, push, pull, carry and lift as needed.
Ability to coordinate eyes, hands, feet and limbs in performing skilled movements.
Ability to travel and be away from home for extended periods of time. 100% Travel.

Education and/or Experience:
High school graduate or GED certificate.

Work Experience:
This person should have demonstrated field experience with digging operations around utilities in rural and urban areas. Must have 1-year verifiable prior experience operating smaller utility construction equipment.

Industry Knowledge:
General knowledge of Utility Construction Procedures, including print reading. In addition, have knowledge of or be familiar with all procedures and associated tools and equipment necessary to install underground utilities in the most effective, safe and profitable manor.

Must be willing to travel and be away from home for extended periods.

Must work well with others and participate on a crew.
Valid driver’s license with ability to travel to various locations within and/or outside of building or state, CDL preferred.
Demonstrated operational capabilities for the assigned equipment with the ability and patience to instruct and mentor other employees in the skill of operating equipment.
