APEX Engineering is seeking qualified applicants for the professional position of plumbing system designer.
The ideal candidate will be able to understand and design a variety of commercial buildings including, but not limited to, K-12 schools, office buildings, medical clinics, public safety buildings, universities, and water treatment plants.
The position requires good communication skills for meeting with architects and clients to discuss projects, experience working and coordinating with utility companies, designing architectural plumbing systems such as domestic water, storm water, sanitary sewer, gas and oil piping, compressed air, and medical gases, providing rough-draft drawings for CAD operators, an ability to draw piping schematics, review of final contract documents, submitting plans and calculations for regulatory agency approval, working knowledge and experience with technical specification writing including fire protection performance specifications, project management skills for answering questions during the bidding and construction process, reviewing shop drawings, and conducting project site visits to review construction progress, and verifying existing plans and code compliance.
Applicants must have extensive knowledge and the ability to understand current plumbing and fuel gas codes and related safety statutes, including experience with the regulatory agency approval process. Candidates who are proficient in AutoCAD and/or Revit are preferred, but not required. Supervisory skills are important when working with CAD personnel and others within the plumbing department. It is preferable, but not required, that applicants have an associate degree in Mechanical Engineering or a BSME, and have a Professional Engineering (P.E.) license or a Designer of Engineered Systems license for plumbing systems. 5 or more years of experience working as a master plumber or plumbing designer/engineer is desired.
