MENOMONIE, Wis. (WEAU)— The Dunn County Master Gardeners present the 8th Annual “Spring Begins!” Seminar with the Dunn County Master Gardener Association on Saturday, March 3, 2018 from 9:00 am to 12 Noon at the Dunn County Community Services Building.
Seminar guest speakers include:
Faye Ryszkiewicz: Growing Edibles Without a Garden
The program will feature a variety of edibles including vegetables, herbs and fruits with a “Splash” of flowers in a wide variety of containers.
Faye Ryszkiewicz is the owner of Fryszki’s Country Gardens LLC, located in Caryville, WI. Greenhouse work was not a lifelong aspiration, rather Faye was inspired by taking a part time greenhouse job which developed over time into owning and operating her own greenhouse business. To enhance her greenhouse work experience, she earned associate degrees from Chippewa Valley Technical College in Marketing, Business Management and Landscape, Plant and Turf Management, in addition to the Computer Information Systems Programmer/Analyst degree she earned years earlier, which was her career prior to being introduced to the wonderful world of plants.
Sandra Lindow: A Hedge Witch and Her Raised Beds
A Hedge Witch is an older woman who lives at the edge of the village. She will discuss vegetable gardening using raised beds, and using French Intensive techniques for gardening in relatively small spaces. Lasagna mulching and companion planting will be discussed, as well as pressure canning and poetry about gardening.
Sandra Lindow spent her first 10 years on a farm in central Wisconsin. In elementary school, she joined 4-H and took classes in cooking and canning, winning Blue ribbons for her canned green beans. Now she continues to garden using raised beds and French intensive techniques in her relatively small back yard. Her first poetry publication was in a Sunday School magazine at age 11. Since then she has had hundreds of publications including seven collections. The most recent collection is The Hedge Witch’s Upgrade 2012, which centers on her Menomonie yard and gardens. Much of her poetry focuses on various aspects of gardening.
This seminar will be held Saturday, March 3rd from 9 a.m. – Noon at the Dunn County Community Services Building (former Dunn County Health Care Center) located on the outskirts of Menomonie just off of Highway 12/29 East.
