EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)— News Release:
The Master Singers, Gary R. Schwartzhoff, conductor, will present Choral Images 2018: Lux Aeterna on Sunday, March 18 at 2 PM at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Eau Claire with guest artist, the Eau Claire Chamber Orchestra (ECCO), Frank A. Watkins, conductor. This performance marks the conclusion of their Silver Anniversary Season with seven performances in Eau Claire and Minneapolis. In addition, The Master Singers will appear as guest artist with ECCO on their March 10, 2018 concert at 7:30 PM at Grace Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

Lux Aeterna by composer Morten Lauridsen will be the featured work on the Choral Images Concert. American choral composer Morten Lauridsen, (b.1943), was the National Medal of Arts recipient (2007) and is recognized as the most-performed living American choral composer. Noted musicologist Nick Strimple stated that Lauridsen is "the only American composer in history who can be called a mystic, whose probing, serene work contains an elusive and indefinable ingredient which leaves the impression that all the questions have been answered.” Lux Aeterna (Light Eternal) is the most performed choral score by Lauridsen. The five-movement work for chorus and orchestra is organized around several Latin texts addressing the idea of light. The work was premiered in 1997 by the Los Angeles Master Chorale with Paul Salamunovich, conductor

The Master Singers are pleased to welcome a chamber choir of area high school students who have been invited to perform with The Master Singers on the Lauridsen score. The vocalists represent choral programs at Altoona High School, Justin Ranek, director; Eau Claire Memorial High School, Katie Sandberg, director; Eau Claire North High School, Rachael McIlquham, director; Eau Claire Regis High School, Rebecca Santine, director. In all, The Master Singers have collaborated with five area high school choral programs this season.

The second half of the anniversary concert will feature six choral works by noted American choral composers Susan LaBarr, Stephen Paulus, Jake Runestad, Ralph Manuel, as well as, former composers who have written for The Master Singers, Eric Barnum and Z. Randall Stroope. Alumni members of The Master Singers are invited to join with the ensemble on our traditional close to the concert to mark the anniversary performance.

Tickets for Choral Images 2019 are available at the three Festival Foods locations in Eau Claire, First Congregational United Church of Christ and at the door. Admission is $18.00 for adults, $5.00 for students or by season pass.
