EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The snow is far from over that means a lot of stress can come to homeowners. But maintaining gutters can make all the difference and Hello Wisconsin explains in ‘Helpful Home Tips’. George Tait of Rock and Tait Exteriors, also a member of the Chippewa Valley Homebuilders Association, joined the show to talk about what to know.
This time of year many try to avoid that water in their basement. George says that many homeowners believe installing gutters is a solution to all water issues. But it’s only part of the solution.
“The main purpose is to control water from running off your main roof systems. It’s important to note it’s not going to eliminate an ice problem. But it could help alleviate moisture headed back to your home,” he says .
Also, the gutters need to be properly cleaned frequently to avoid build and ice jams. Tait says he’s received numerous calls about the issue this year. “Proper venting and insulation is huge right now. If your attic is not performing well, it’s easy for the snow to melt soon, backup and cause ice problems,” he says.
