ELK MOUND, Wis. (WEAU) -- A fire in Elk Mound is being treated as suspicious, after a house was destroyed early Monday morning.

John Anderson, with the Chippewa Fire District, says multiple engines responded to the scene at 2024 40th St. just after 3 a.m. in the Town of Wheaton. When crews arrived the entire structure was up in flames.

The land owner responded to the scene, and told firefighters the house had been vacant for more than 20 years and was built in the late 1800s.

The fire is being treated as suspicious, and an investigation is ongoing at this time.
