Memorial ride planned for fallen Detective Jason Weiland

WAUSAU, Wis., (WSAW) -- In the wake of tragedy, the Weston community is planning a memorial bike ride for fallen Everest Metro Detective Jason Weiland.

A memorial bike ride, called Jay's Ride, is being planned as a fundraiser to fund the Jason Weiland Criminal Justice Scholarship at Northcentral Technical College.

To talk about the inaugural ride was a lifelong friend of Weiland and organizer Josh Preiser.

Jay's Ride is a memorial bicycle ride in honor of fallen Everest Metro Detective Jason Weiland.

The ride will take place Saturday, September 23 at 10:30 a.m. on the Mountain Bay Trail starting at the Weston Trail-head, and will be followed by a social hour at Day's Bowl-a-Dome.

All proceeds from the event are going to fund the Jason Weiland Criminal Justice Scholarship at NTC and the D.A.R.E. program in the DC Everest School District. The plan is to make this an annual event, picking a new charity each year.

Registration is $20 and includes trail fees and a t-shirt. Registration and additional information is available on the event's Facebook Page and its website.
