AMERY, Wis. (WEAU) -- A woman is dead after police say she was hit by a driver in Amery while walking across the street.

Lisa Allen, 50 of Amery, was hit while crossing Keller Avenue last Friday. A witness told police that Allen flew onto the hood of the car, and said the driver didn’t stop until Allen rolled off the car and fell onto the pavement. The witness then told police the driver handed her Allen’s purse and scarf, that were still on the hood of the car, and drove off again.

The witness then followed the driver, and got his license plate number.

Police were able to track the car to 59-year-old Michael George of Altoona. They say George was located at a hotel in Woodville.
When police interviewed him, he reportedly admitted to officers that he hit the woman but claimed she jumped out in front of him and that he was planning on going back to the scene the next day. George denied drinking before the crash, but he said he did have two beers before officers found him. A blood alcohol test showed his blood alcohol level was .11.

Allen died of her injuries on Sunday. George was charged Monday with hit and run, causing death in Polk County.
