EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU)-- The City of Eau Claire is welcoming its new fire chief and he is no stranger to the city.

Chris Bell took the oath Thursday at a small ceremony at fire station 2. Bell was joined by his wife and three kids who helped the new fire chief put on his new badge and hardware.

Bell is a 19-year veteran of the fire department. He says he's worked his way up the ranks over the last 19 years and is excited to continue the great leadership in the department.

"I look forward to the opportunity to lead the fire department and take great care of the city. We have great firefighters and great partners in this community," Bell said.

Bell takes over for Chief Lyle Koerner. Koerner served for 33 years on the department. He says he's looking forward to spending more time outdoors and with his family after retirement.
