EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- The plows are out in full force and the City of Eau Claire has declared a snow event.

The City of Eau Claire says alternate side parking will be put into effect at 12:01 a.m. Wednesday. And if you are planning to be up at that time, don't be surprised if you hear some noise outside your window as plows will be out plowing residential areas.

Eau Claire Street Maintenance Manager Steven Thompson says there was a close call for one of the plows while on a route today as two cars hit each other and slid right in front of a plow. Luckily, the plow didn't hit the cars.

The plows will be out on the road throughout the evening and late into the morning.

Thompson says the plows are out there doing their jobs helping you get to your jobs and other places you’re going, so give the plow operators some space.

"You can see the lights on the trucks,” Thompson said. “There's signs on the backs of them: stay back 200 feet. When you see those trucks and those lights, give them room to do their job."

If you're parking on the street, make sure you're parked on the odd side of the road Tuesday night and into Wednesday.

As always, slow down and drive safely: it's better to get there later than to not get there at all.
