CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU)- A super computer manufacturing company with deep roots in Chippewa Falls announces its laying off 190 employees. Cray Inc. says it notified impacted workers about the decision Tuesday. At this point, it's not clear how many employees if any would be impacted at the Cray facility in Chippewa Falls.
A company spokesperson says after plenty of consideration, the company made the difficult, but necessary decision to move forward with 190 permanent layoffs. While the spokesperson from the company would not say how many layoffs will impact workers from the Chippewa Falls location, he did say the 190 layoffs are across the company and are “not concentrated in any one location or function.”
Cray says they are working to provide support for those directly impacted by the layoffs. The company says it remains committed to building on its leadership position in the high-end of the super computing market.
A Department of Workforce Development spokesperson says they have not been informed of any layoffs from Cray Inc.
At the end of last month, Cray had around 1,300 employees worldwide, and of that number 228 employees were located in Chippewa Falls.
