Deputy shoots, kills person in northern Wisconsin

ODANAH, Wis. (AP) -- Authorities in northern Wisconsin say a sheriff's deputy has shot and killed a person.

The Ashland County Sheriff's Office says a 911 caller reported someone walking on a street in Odanah carrying a knife late Wednesday morning. Deputies responded, and one of the deputies fired shots that struck the person.

The victim was taken to an Ashland hospital where he was pronounced dead. The deputy was not hurt.

The name of the victim was not released. Authorities say it was an isolated incident and no other suspects are at large.

The Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation is investigating.
