Tyler Thompson, who worked at The Learning Tree Child Care Center in Eau Claire for at least three years, was arrested on allegations of 1st degree sexual assault of a child.

According to the Eau Claire Police Department, Tyler Thompson worked at The Learning Tree for at least 3 years.

“We received information from the parents of some inappropriate touching has been occurring at the learning tree, so we had a detective go in to look into it,” says Lt. Derek Thomas of the Eau Claire Police Department.

According to the criminal complaint, the 5-year-old girl, who is not being identified, reported to her parents she was touched by a man she identified as "Mr. Tyler" sometime last year.

The child was interviewed by a representative with the Child Advocacy Center. Information led to the arrest of Thompson on Wednesday under allegations of 1st degree child sexual assault- sexual contact with a child under age 13.

The owner of The Learning Tree, Cassi Stoeklen, says the daycare is "completely shocked and heartbroken of this."

“We are fully cooperating with law-enforcement on what they need for the investigation, and just our first priority is the children and making sure that they're safe,” says Stoeklen.

The Learning Tree did not say what Thompson's current status of employment is.

Thompson was also employed at Action City in Eau Claire. According to its general manager, Thompson is temporarily suspended from there, pending the outcome of his case.

The Eau Claire Police Department posted information on Facebook for parents who are concerned their child may have been a victim of sexual abuse.

“At this point we don't know if there are any other victims, we don't know if this was an isolated incident with this one child, we don't know anything like that at this point, so when we get the information out to the public, will get the information out to the parents,” says Thomas.

Today, the Eau Claire Police Department stressed it works to conduct fair and impartial investigations and prioritize cases affecting children.

The child sexual assault information sent out by police will be distributed to parents of The Learning Tree at a meeting tonight. Thompson was released this morning on a $2,500 signature bond. His pre-trial date is set for November 15th. The investigation is ongoing.
