PARIS, France (WEAU) -- An Eau Claire man vacationing in France says hearing the gunshots from an attack on police was very scary.

Evan Brown and his girlfriend have been vacationing in Paris since Sunday. They were eating outside of a restaurant when the gunman opened fire. He believes they were about 100 feet away from the attack.

"People were running, screaming, and at that point, we just rushed to the back of the restaurant," Brown told WEAU 13 News. "It was like a Hollywood movie. There were glasses shattering, tables flipping over. We were trying as fast as we could to get to the back of the restaurant."

Brown and his girlfriend were not hurt in the attack, but he says they were both pretty shaken up. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the shooting. One police officer and the attacker both died. Two other officers were seriously hurt. A prosecutor said investigators verified the attacker's identity, but that person's name hasn't been released.
