EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- Wisconsin’s Chief Economist says the state's economy is better now than the last 15 years.

John Koskinen made those comments Monday at the Eau Claire Area Economic Development Corporation lunch at the Florian Gardens. During the event, a summary of Eau Claire EDC accomplishments and initiatives were also presented to the community. Koskinen says Eau Claire is helping remodel the Wisconsin economy.

"Where I made the presentation that Wisconsin had gained employment, it was true for Eau Claire, the housing rebound, true for Eau Claire true for Wisconsin the growth and real wages, true for Wisconsin, true for Eau Claire. Eau Claire has been a very active participant in the remodeling of the Wisconsin Economy,” said Koskinen.

According to the United States Department of Labor Eau Claire's unemployment rate in December 2016 was 3.7 percent.
