Explosion causes fire at Dairyland Power plant late Saturday night

ALMA, Wis. (WEAU) -- According to a Facebook post from Dairyland Power Cooperative, a mill explosion caused a fire that ranged 3 floors at the plant in Alma Saturday night.

According to Alma Fire Chief, Tom Brakke, 6 fire departments were sent to the John P. Madgett Station in Alma Saturday around 10:30pm. The fire ranged from the 4th to the 6th floor of the building. The departments put out the fire early Sunday morning.

Thirty-five firefighters were on the scene from different fire departments: Alma, Nelson, Tri Community, Waumandee, Mondovi and Fountain City. No one was hurt.

No one in the area was without power due to the incident.

The cause of the explosion has yet to be determined. A damage assessment is being conducted by Dairyland Power Cooperative on Sunday.
