MADISON, Wis.(WMTV) -- A former UW-Madison student accused of multiple cases of sexual assault pleaded guilty to five charges. As part of the plea deal, the remaining charges were dropped.
21-year-old Alec Cook appeared in a Dane County courtroom on Wednesday afternoon for a plea hearing. A judge said he could face 39.5 years in prison. Cook will have to register as a sex offender.
Cook pleaded guilty to three counts of third degree sexual assault, strangulation and suffocation, and stalking charges.
There will be no jury trial. Cook was expected to stand trial seven times. Jury selection for his first trial date was set to happen on February 26 with the trial beginning on February 27 in Jefferson County. His trial was moved out of Dane County.
A sentencing date has not been set.
