CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- A Chippewa Falls-based grocery chain has closed its Hayward location in the midst of what it calls a company-wide restructuring of the business.

In a news release dated July 25, Gordy's Market announced that the store would close at the end of business on Tuesday. The release went on to say that the adjacent pharmacy, restaurant and beauty shop are not included in the closure and will remain open. WEAU 13 News received the release on Wednesday morning.

The company announced in April 2016 that it acquired the store, which was previously Cabin Stop in Hayward. In Tuesday's release, it said that the move at the Hayward location is part of the effort "to reach a level of deeper performance and customer engagement with the remaining stores."

"Our plans for significant growth were just too aggressive," Gordy's CEO Jeff Schafer said in the release. "It's time to get back to our roots and operate a smaller organization with the highest level of service to our communities.

"This has been a very difficult decision for the Gordy's family. Our appreciation and sincere concern for both our employees and loyal customers is something that we take very seriously."

The company said it has committed to working with other grocery service providers. The goal is to possibly find another local food option for the Hayward location.

WEAU 13 News reached out to the Wisconsin Workforce Development, which said it has not received a notice regarding the Gordy’s in Hayward. It’s unclear how jobs could be affected.
