Health officials reminding well owners to test their drinking water

EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) -- With those heavy rainfalls from Thursday, health officials are reminding well owners to test their drinking water.

The heavy rain increases the risk of contaminants or bacteria getting into a well, which could make you and your family sick.

In Eau Claire County, there are more than 3,800 permits for wells.

The Health Department says testing the water ensures your water supply is safe.

“Anytime there’s a flood in an area where there’s a well, we recommend testing and really using bottled water until that test comes back. If you’re in an area where your well cover does not get flooded with water, you don't need to worry about it,” said Lieske Giese

Sample testing bottles are available at the health department for $17.
