CHIPPEWA FALLS, Wis. (WEAU) -- Ice fishers from around the area gathered Saturday on Lake Wissota to show off their skills.

Saturday was the 4th annual Jig’s Up Ice fishing contest. It’s put on by UW-Eau Claire Recreation and Athletics. Anglers can win prizes including cash and outdoor sporting goods. Organizers say the best part about the day is meeting new fishers and the great weather.

"Sunshine and warm weather, other than the good vibes. Just seeing all the fish caught here, and if you don't know the area, then you get to see what's in the lake and all the good fishermen out here,” said Mitch Leopold with UWEC Rod and Gun Club.

The most impressive fish these two saw this morning was a 10 pound Northern.

Organizers say no one was able to catch the tagged fish that would have won them a Ford F150 truck from Eau Claire Ford.
