Inaugural event held to help people with dementia, families

LAKE WISSOTA, Wis. (WEAU) -- Living with dementia was the subject of an event in Chippewa County on Thursday.

The Dementia Coalition of Chippewa County hosted “Bridging Memories” – an event which has the goal of finding joy and humor for those living with dementia and their family members.

Activities at Kamp Kenwood on Lake Wissota were held for all ages, including pontoon rides, nature walks, a photo booth, a free lunch and more. Britney Kopp with the coalition says is a prefect laid back environment to just have some fun.

"The Chippewa County Dementia Coalition felt that there is really this missing for individuals with dementia and their families: an opportunity to get out, have fun, be in a safe environment, and not have to worry about any concerns with maybe being forgetful, or getting tired, or maybe being disruptive," Kopp said to WEAU 13 News on Thursday.

This was the first year the event was held. About 80 people attended.
