COLFAX, Wis. (WEAU)-- Kids as young as 12 are working toward becoming certified to drive and run tractors and farm equipment.

The kids took part in training in Colfax Monday. Dunn County UW-Extension holds the training every year as long as registration is high.

Kids ages 12-16 listened to volunteers teach and share stories of farm accidents and discussed ways to prevent them.

"It's just something that everyone should be aware of, and if these kids are going to be in those positions we want to try and take that first step in preventing any issues from happening," said John Nelson, Colfax High School AG Teacher.

The students take a written test and a driving test before they can finish the course.
