Ladysmith homicide trial could stretch into next week

LADYSMITH, Wis. (WEAU) -- The trial of a man from Ladysmith accused of killing his ex-girlfriend's dad could stretch into next week.

27-year-old Thomas Martin's trial in Rusk County court began on Monday.

Prosecutors say officers responded to a report of a fight at a Ladysmith apartment last April.

Investigators found Richard Larson lying on the floor with a deep stab wound on his back. He later died at the hospital.

Friday jurors watched a graphic video of when first responders arrived on scene which showed Larson being bandaged and taken to the hospital by EMTs.

Hundreds of texts between Martin and his ex-girlfriend leading up to the incident were also read in court.

The defense says Martin was only acting out of self-defense.

However the prosecution says Martin knew he was never in any serious danger.
