Employee of Mabel Tainter suspended amid sexual assault allegations

MENOMENIE, Wis. (RELEASE) -- Menomonie, Wisconsin- At the December 19th, 2017 Board of Directors meeting for the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts, the board was informed of an incident regarding one of the Mabel Tainter employees and sexual assault allegations that were made against said employee to the Menomonie Police Department.

An incident occurred in the Mabel Tainter on Saturday, December 9th at approximately 2am in which the police were called to the Mabel Tainter and sexual assault allegations were made of the Mabel employee. The Menomonie Police Department investigations are ongoing. This incident did not involve a minor. The employee in question was suspended by the Board of Directors and will stay suspended and off the Mabel payroll until the investigation has been completed and the employee is either cleared of charges or prosecuted.

“We take any kind of legal allegations very seriously and moved to suspend the employee as soon as we were informed," said Andrew Mercil, incoming Board President. “We are fully committed to due process for anyone involved in any sort of legal matter, but we want to ensure that until due process has been run that this particular employee not be associated with the Mabel Tainter Center for the Arts.”, Mercil continued. The board of directors wants to stress that the Mabel is a safe space for the community and that steps are being taken to ensure another incident like this does not happen in the future.

The identity of the victim and of the defendant are currently being withheld until the Menomonie Police Department completes their investigation.
